USATF-Utah Official's Certification Clinic
Legend's Grille, 2nd Floor, Student Athlete Building, BYU
Tuesday, December 8, 2016
6:00 p.m.

It is time to Recertify!  All officials need to certify again.

We have a new Olympiad!  That means that it is time for all of us to re-certify.  Every official needs to re-certify.  The only exception would be someone who completed their initial certification as an Apprentice Official in the last 3 months of this year.  If that is you, your certification is good until 2020.  (You still must maintain a valid membership through this period.)

We are hosting a certification clinic on Thursday, December 8th.  This is a great time to do the certification process, whether you are new or re-certifying.  The process will be done in groups, making in easy and fun!  There will be a group for Apprentice level officials.  There will be a group for Association level officials. There will be a group for National level officials.  There will be a group for Master level officials.  And, BYU will provide a light dinner!  You don't want to miss it!

What you will need:

Valid Membership Number - You will need a membership number that is current, through the end of 2017.  My personal opinion is to get a membership through the end of 2020.  It will make it so you don't have to worry about it, you will always be current and insured, and it is less expensive.  Please arrive at the meeting with a valid membership number.

Dues - You will need your dues of $15. (Cash or check, made out to USATF-Utah)

We will take a photo.  Or, you can send us a photo that you would like to use for your badge.

In conjunction with the USATF/Utah Track and Field Officials, we are hosting a Certification Clinic for new and recertifying officials.  At UVU, they host two outdoor track meets.  For the last two years they have hosted the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  At BYU, each year they host one cross country meet, two indoor track meets, and four outdoor track meets.  Every few years there are opportunities to work championship meets.  BYU typically hosts the state high school meet each year.  In 2011, BYU hosted the NCAA Mountain Region Cross Country Championships at East Bay Golf Course.  In 2009 we hosted the Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championship.  We hosted the NCAA West Region Track and Field Championships in 2006.  Great meets do not happen without capable officials.  It would be great to have additional officials to assist with hosting our meets.  Between BYU, UVU, Utah, Weber State, Utah State, Southern Utah, Dixie and the high schools, there are a lot of meets that need officials. There are a large number of high school meets in the area that always need officials.  There are many opportunities to officiate and serve.

Benefits?
Officials receive a stipend for most meets that they work at BYU, making it easy to recoup the cost of certification and then some.

Where?
The clinic will be held on the 2nd Floor of Legende's Grille in the SAB (Student Athlete Buidling) on the BYU campus.  This building is just north of the Smith Fieldhouse.
